Social Integration Residence is a residence permit that allows foreign nationals to reside legally in Spain if they have remained in the country for at least two years prior to submitting the application, and can demonstrate either family ties with other foreign residents holding a valid residence permit or, where such ties cannot be proven, sufficient evidence of social integration in Spain.

Legal Requirements

Continuous Residence in Spain

You must have remained in Spain continuously for at least two years prior to submitting the application. It is important not to hold the status of an international protection applicant at the time of application or during its processing.

No Threat to Public Order, Security or Public Health

This requirement ensures safe coexistence and compliance with current legal standards.

No Criminal Record and Not Listed as Inadmissible

You must not have a criminal record in Spain or in any country where you have lived during the five years prior to entering Spain, for offenses recognized under Spanish law. You must also not be listed as inadmissible in Spain or in countries with which Spain has agreements restricting entry.

Payment of the Application Fee

As with most administrative procedures, the application requires payment of the corresponding fee within the established deadline.

Family Ties and Financial Means

Spanish immigration law refers to spouses or registered partners, as well as first-degree relatives in the direct line. It is essential that these family ties are with foreign nationals who already hold a valid residence permit in Spain, and that sufficient financial means are demonstrated.

Sufficient Social Integration

If family ties cannot be proven, the competent authority of the Autonomous Community where you reside must issue a favourable report recommending the granting of the residence authorization based on your level of social integration.
